Lingard and Paul Pogba celebrate |
Mourinho continues the race for Guardiola. Today Manchester United was guest at Goodison Park, United ended draw way of 3 games and started New Year with win (0:2).
Both teams opened the contest in lively fashion with the play switching constantly from one end of the field to the other. United steadily began to enjoy more of the possession, but in front of goal there was very little to get the pulse racing until the latter stages of the first half when Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba and Lingard all chanced their luck with long-range shots.
The first half concluded with neither side having caused many uneasy moments for goalkeepers David De Gea and Jordan Pickford.
United went straight onto the offensive as the second half got under way. It was certainly a more encouraging spell from United and 12 minutes into the half the Reds got the reward when Pogba found Martial with a lovely pass and the Frenchman wasted no time in taking aim before finding the net with a precise finish.
In 81st min. excellent strike from Lingard proved to be the clincher and it meant United returned to winning ways and kicked off 2018 in the best possible fashion.
JOSE: IT WAS A FRESH PERFORMANCE
The boss was pleased with the players in what he felt was a deserved win. He said: "I kept saying that our draws were not bad performances. Our draws had situations which made it more difficult for us and we made mistakes ourselves, especially in the matches against Leicester and Burnley. But the players - their attitude, commitment, pride, effort, everything - was top class and on top of it we played very well. It didn't look a performance of tired boys. It was a fresh performance."
This was really easy match for United and I don`t what to say more or new. Everyone expected and that`s happend. Mourinho plays his game, well organised in defence, concrete and calm in attack. They are very strong but of course Mourinho just talking about transfers and new players, obviously, this season Guardiola is TOO good for Premier league and Jose is probably really nervous about that.
